In Chelsea's history there have been surprisingly few Spanish players, and all but one of them have appeared for the club in the last 4 years.

Traditionally Chelsea favoured homegrown players, and it is only really since the arrival of Roman Abramovic that the influx of players from overseas began.

That said, the Spanish players who have been at Stamford Bridge have been high profile. None more so than Fernando Torres who arrived in 2010.

After being in sensational form at Liverpool he cost the blues £50million in 2010 and has been, most would agree, a bit of a disaster, scoring only 45 times in 172 appearances.

Another high profile player is Juan Mata who played for Chelsea between 2011 and 2014, and was voted player of the season in 2013 before being surprisingly sold to Manchester United in 2014.

Current Spanish players in the squad are defender Cesar Azpilicueta and new arrival Diego Costa.

The only other Spanish player to play for Chelsea is Albert Ferrar, who was there between 1998 and 2003 before retiring at 33.
