Whilst manager of Liverpool football club, Bob Paisley won thirteen trophies in only nine years as manager of the club.

Amongst his numerous truimphs were three European cups, six first division championships, three league cups and one UEFA cup, with the only major honour to elude him being the FA cup.

Paisley took over as Liverpool manager in the summer of ninteen seventy four after the then Liverpool boss, Bill Shankly, suddenly announced his retirement. Paisley had worked for Liverpool during the Shankly era, and Paisley's appontment came as little surprise.

Paisley remained at the helm until announcing his retirement at the end of the 1982-83 season. Liverpool finished that season as league champions and as winners of the league cup, for the third sucessive year.

After the sucess of appointing Paisley from within the club, the Anfield board looked no further afield for a replacement than their own back room staff again, appointing Joe Fagan as manager of the club for the 1983-84 season.
