Football Club Barcelona was founded in 1899, following an advertisement in a magazine which was placed by Swiss-born, Joan Gamper. Eleven people attended the advertised meeting and they formed the initial line-up. They were William Parsons, John Parsons, Josep Llobet, Pere Cabot, Enric Ducal, Otto Maier, Otto Kunzle, Bartomeu Terradas, Gualteri Wild and Lluis d'Osso.

From the outset, the club was one of the most successful in Spain. They won the Copa Macaya in 1901 which would be their first trophy.

However the early years of the club's existence, saw FC Barcelona fall into financial troubles. As a result, Joan Gamper took over presidency of the club in 1908. He helped secure over 10,000 members of the club and moved the club to it's own stadium, the Carrer Industria.

FC Barcelona currently play their home games at Camp Nou. It has a capacity for an impressive 98,787 people.

The club plays in La Liga, the highest division in Spain. During the 2005/06 season, Barcelona finished as Champions.
