There’s no specific timeline for replacing a tennis ball, but you’d want to do that when you notice that they’re not as bouncy. Of course, the more you play, the sooner it happens.

In competitions, however, you may notice that balls are replaced much more often, usually after every set. Because professionals hit the ball harder than the average player, the felt cover can wear down much faster. When this happens, the ball becomes too light that it tends to sail out of the court much easily and becomes unresponsive to spins applied on it.

Replacing your ball more often lets you practice at a consistent bounce rate, which is very important. If you play often, you might want to buy in bulk to reduce the cost. Checking out free tennis resource websites such as Tennis Racquet Central can help you find the cheapest suppliers.
