Nah .... I don't think so, they've already been publically shamed and they're not gonna get awesome endorsement deals... I think that's punishment enough.

I think it was shameful what they did. Why lie? Make up a terrible story like that? It's an embarrassment really, and I think they should apologize to anyone who was offended.

Yes they have paid a high price for their totally immature behavior pre and post incident. The lost money, the lost pride, the shame etc. All gone in the wind. Hopefully their example will influence young people the right way.

It shouldn't be condoned, Otis, but as Rooster pointed out he may have penalised himself already far beyond anything American swimming can do.

He's not unique, we've had a few of them here, too. Some of our swimmers at the London Olympics disgraced themselves and our top tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, was told flatly that his bad behaviour would not be tolerated at the Olympic Games. Rather than behave himself he declared himself unavailable.

Just saw this on the internet:

U.S. Olympic swimmer Jimmy Feigen agreed to make an $11,000 donation to a Brazilian charity in an effort to resolve a dispute over claims of being robbed in Rio de Janeiro that authorities say were made up.

Feigen's lawyer in Rio, Breno Melaragno Costa, announced the agreement early Friday morning, hours after he sat down with a judge and officials from the prosecuting ministry at a police station in Rio for four hours on Thursday.

Kind of harsh isn't it ? They'll lose way more than that from no endorsements.
