Currently, England has three separate cricket team captains; one for each form of the game (Test cricket, ODI, Twenty20). However, the Test match captaincy is considered to be the most important of the three and this post is held by Andrew John Strauss. Strauss was born on the 2nd of March 1977 in Johannesburg, South Africa and has held the post of test cricket captain since 2009. Strauss made his test debut at Lords cricket ground in 2004 against New Zealand and apart from a brief stint out of the side in 2007, Strauss has been key element of England and has established himself as one of the finest opening batsman in the world today. Under his captaincy England climbed to the top of the ICC test rankings after beating India in 2011. Following a poor performance by England at the 2011 world cup Strauss stepped down from the one day international (ODI) captaincy and retired from ODI cricket. Following this Alistair Cook was instated as the ODI captain. Stuart Broad is the current Twenty20 captain.
