The centre court where Wimbledon is played is not being used for anything other than what it is meant for. For the two weeks when Wimbledon tournament is being played, it is used for the purpose and after that it is preserved for the next year and same tournament.

Plans are there to use the court for some other purposes also and for that purpose the authorities are planning to place roof on the court. Planning is also going on to use the court for the Summer Olympics that is going to be held in England in the year 2012.

So it can be said that as of now the court is idle and there is nothing that is being organised in the court when Wimbledon is not happening. The reason can be anything; it might be possible that the sanctity of the court will be ruined if it is being used for any other purpose.

The Championships at Wimbledon are popularly called as Wimbledon. It is one of the oldest contests in the sport of tennis. It is generally and widely considered to be one of the major tournaments in the sport. It is viewed by many players as a prestigious and crucial title and is a milestone in itself.    It takes place every year during the months of June and July in London and is the third of the grand Slams in the year, following the Australian Open and French Open, and preceding the U.S Open. It is the only Grand Slam to be held on a grass surface. A total of 19 courts are used for the event, the major two courts of which are used only during the tournament. The rest of the courts see regular use for tournaments held by various tennis and croquet clubs.
