I heard the rumour that Arsenal are looking at the possibility of signing Mario Balotelli in the summer too, and I guess there's two sides to whether it would be a good move or not:

From a financial point of view, £40 million rated Balotelli isn't the typical Arsenal target. We're more likely to sign an 18 year old from Ligue 2 for free.

But the reason it could happen is that Arsenal's new kit sponsor, Puma, want it to.

Why do Puma want Arsenal to sign Balotelli?

Because they sponsor him too... And I guess there's some sort of marketing or branding angle they're trying to play.

They're even willing to put up £15 million of his transfer fee apparently!

But what about from a footballing perspective?

Balotelli has been doing ok at current club Milan (9 goals in 16 games), but he's hardly setting the world alight.

And for £40 million Arsenal could do some serious shopping in the transfer window.

Plus, his 'bad boy' style doesn't really fit with Wenger's philosophy, and the team seems to have a really nice energy and buzz at the moment... No need for some hot-headed primadonna to crash the party.

On the other hand, Arsenal do need a striker, and are notoriously lacking "teeth" upfront.

Maybe what could complete the Arsenal setup would be a 'wildcard' upfront, someone that isn't afraid to be ruthless and aggressive in front of goal.

Just look at Flamini's effect on our midfield since he returned: He isn't a world class player, but he's added that "tough tackling warrior" dimension we never really had before.

Maybe Super Mario could do something similar up front...
