The major points for making a rugby tackle are hit the opponent below the knees, with your shoulder wrapping your arms around him, and pushing forward with your legs. For your own safety learn to put your head to the side- from a side-on position it should be behind your man, in a head-on tackle, to the side. There are progressive drills that can be practiced which pits tacklers against each other performing tackles as fast as they can.
