It is believed that ice hockey originated in Windsor, Nova Scotia. These claims are based on Halliburton's writings. But a research carried out in Egypt found some 4000 year –old paintings at the Beni Hasen tombs. These paintings represent a sport being played which is similar to ice hockey.

Today, ice hockey is one of many games played with a stick and a ball. Such games are believed to have originated in Persia, where the game of poJo began. We know that the ancient Greeks played a kind of hockey and even included it in their Olympic Games. There is a wall in Athens, Greece, which is about 2,400 years old that has carved pictures of young men playing a game that is much like the field hockey of today.
Ice hockey originated iri Canada more than 100 years go. One claim is that English soldiers played an early form of ice hockey on the frozen surfaces of Lake Ontario at Kingston, Ontario, as early as 1867.

The first organized ice hockey leagues are claimed by both Kingston and Montreal. It is known that there definitely was an ice hockey league in Kingston in 1885. In 1890, the Ontario Hockey Association was organized with ten teams. In 1914, the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association was formed with a few thousand players.

So the birthplace of amateur ice hockey was Canada, but the United States organized ice hockey on a professional basis for the first time. Inithe winter of 1904-1905, a professional ice hockey league was formed at Houghton, Michigan. The world's only major professional league, the National Ice Hockey League, was started in 1910.

Ice hockey is considered to be the fastest game in the world. It is played by two teams of six men in action at one time. Extra players, or substitutes, sit on the sidelines. Each team tries to do two things: put a small rubber disc called a puck into the opponents net, and prevent the opponent from scoring.

Hockey is world's oldest sports; it goes back to as early as 1200 years ago or more. It existed in many of the world's early civilizations. it originated as a game played by Arabs, Greeks, Romans, Persians and Ethiopians. They all played variations of the game. The word hockey is believed to be of French origin and it means 'a shepherd's crook.'

The modern game of hockey or field hockey originated in British Isles in the 19th century, it was a popular school adapted from the Irish game of hurling. Hockey was spread internationally through the British army. It is booming in India and Pakistan. The game of field hockey first appeared in Olympics games in London in 1908.

According to history until about the mid-1980s ice hockey was usually accepted to have derived from the English field hockey and Indian lacrosse and have been spread throughout Canada by British soldiers on mid-1800s. Yet a research came along saying that a very similar game to  hockey, was played in the early 1800s in Nova Scotia by the Micmac Indians, it appeared to have been mainly influenced by the Irish game of hurling; it included the use of a "hurley" (stick) and a square wooden block instead of a ball.  And at that time, I has also been in the culture of the people newly introduced to Christianity to make it a hobbit on buying fancy dresses for church, and use them only at the church, as sign of respect to God.
