Who is Eugenie Bouchard?

She was born in Montreal, Canada, on February 25th, 1994. One of a set of twins, Eugenie was named after the British Princess Eugenie, daughter of the Duke of York and the former Duchess of York.

Known to friends as 'Genie,' Bouchard first found a talent for tennis at the age of five and by the age of twelve Bouchard had moved to Florida for coaching, returning to Montreal at the age of 15.

In the early days of her tennis career, Bouchard often paired up with her best friend, the British tennis player Laura Robson and the partnership proved to be a first taste of success for both, when they won a junior event, the Prince Cup, in Miami in 2007.

Bouchard's Professional Career Began in 2008

Eugenie played her first professional event at the ITF Challenger in Sumter, South Carolina, but was defeated in the first round. In 2009, Bouchard turned pro and since then, she has risen steadily up the rankings, making further inroads into the more prestigious tournaments each year.

In 2012, she won the Wimbledon girls' title, in 2013 won the WTA Player of the Year Award (a year after her friend Laura Robson had done the same) and the following year, reach the semis of the both the Australian and French Opens. The highlight of her career so far was finishing runner-up in the 2014 Wimbledon tournament.
